If Mayor Funky and Gloria Were a Sitcom, What Would They Be?

None of my serious posts like the direct line from Jefferson to Obama get any hits.  But when I post about Kansas City’s fun couple, Mayor Funky and Mrs. Funky, you all go Squitiro on me and read my blog.

So, Kansas City and environs, here we go.  Another shameless, juvenile post that I hope gets Tony’s Kansas City’s attention that you actually read.

People, please get serious about our democracy, would ya?! Geez.

Anyway, if the Mayor Funkhouser administration and his lovely wife Gloria were a sitcom, what would they be?

Hear are my nominations:

  • All in the Funky Family—(Inspiration—All in the Family) Archie Funky blusters about the house in a quiet, working class Kansas City neighborhood while Edith Funky acts all ditzy but really runs the city.
  • The Country Club Plaza Hillbillies—(Inspiration—The Beverly Hillbillies)  Jed Funky and his wife, er, grandmother, Granny Gloria, move from the “wrong” side of The Paseo to the Country Club Plaza after Jed discovers the winning playbook for the Kansas City Chiefs buried in his backyard and sells it to Carl Peterson.  Hijinks ensue when Granny Gloria tries to make a light rail system out of critters she found at Swope Park.
  • Gloria—(Inspiration—Maude)  A brassy woman who takes no guff (but prays for her enemies) tells her milquetoast husband how to run a major Midwestern city.
  • The (Home) Office—(Inspiration—The Office)  Mark Schrute finally gets his way and convinces Michael to let him and his new wife, Gloria, work for Dunder Mifflin from home instead of from the office in downtown Kansas City.  Hilarity breaks out when customers and visitors can’t find parking places on their street.
  • One and a Half Men—(Inspiration—Two and a Half Men) A big city mayor who uses cattle at city news conferences and his wife the “volunteer” see how many political miscues they can make in a half hour while teaching valuable life lessons to the citizens they rule.
